2024 Mother's Day Buying Guide

To describe my mother would be to write about a hurricane in its perfect power.  Or the climbing falling colors of a rainbow.

The latest edition of the Potrero View is a keeper! Small businesses like mine on the hill are working hard, surviving--even thriving.  It's great to see old stalwarts like Farley's holding down the fort on the Texas side of 18th Street, benefitting from the "Plough effect" where customers pass the time with a cup of coffee while they wait for over an hour for a table at Plough. What we said: "Potrero Hill is a great place tp have a small business, we have a small town mentality here in the big city. Customers are very loyal, and the local merchants look out for each other..  And we have more foot traffic than ever as people flock from all over to Potrero Hill for the sweeping views, great restaurants and all the other unique and wonderful things we have to offer."  Thank you writer Danny Pham  and the Potrero View for caring about our merchants and providing a space to keep the community connected.

Mark your calendar's: We will be showcasing a floral design at this year's Bouquets to Art at the de Young Museum! Stop by and say hello June 4th-9th!

From the museum website:

Celebrating its 40th anniversary, Bouquets to Art is an annual floral exhibition that lets you engage with the de Young’s expansive collections in new ways.

Leading floral designers return to the galleries this summer to showcase innovative botanical arrangements inspired by museum masterworks. From striking sculptural creations throughout the galleries to a majestic hanging installation in Wilsey Court, inspiration waits around every corner.

Austin Press and Bell and Trunk team up to create a candle that actually smells like the flower shop!

A Perfect Match:  Bell and Trunk Flowers and Austin Press teamed up to create a candle that smells just like the flower shop.  The collaboration started over a decade ago when Vanessa bought candles from Kim's art studio at Pier 70 to sell in her Potrero Hill store.  For years customers would walk in just to take sniff of the shop itself, a fragrance layered with all the fresh flowers and decadent products we sell--like Kim's candles and essential oils. A few years ago Kim and Vanessa ran into each other at a little cafe in the neighborhood they both live in, Bayview Hunter's Point, and the idea was set into motion but it wasn't until after the pandemic that the plan started to blossom.  Recently Kim stopped in Vanessa's flower shop once again but this time was to sniff.  She closed her eyes and gently inhaled and exhaled until she committed the scent to memory.

The result is a botanical candle that is and ode to the flower shop!  Luxuriate in fragrant floral designer stalwarts like Bohemian Rose and French lavender meshed with the breezy fragrances of fresh jasmine and honeysuckle that billow in from neighborhood gardens.  Not too heavy on the florals, our candle has a little bit of cut grass along with woody notes of Moroccan Cedar that evoke the reclaimed redwood accents in our store.

Our Bell and Trunk Team agrees this candle smells just like the shop AND WE LOVE IT!  We think you will too. Only 45 candles were poured so order yours today!

Popular Mother's Day floral options

From Coral Charm peonies to French tulips to intoxicating garden roses— all of mom's favorite flowers are in season. Let us wow her with lush blooms surrounded by soft accents like fragrant lilac, snowball viburnum and hydrangea. We will create florals as unique and special as she is.

Indulge the senses  with a vase full of posies and our signature Austin Press + Bell and Trunk candle. We will arrange fresh, high quality blooms like peonies and garden roses in a premium white ceramic vase, pair it with our candle and beautifully package it in a convenient gift box.  This portable gift is luxurious yet practical. Our 12 ounce two-wick Austin Press candles are made in San Francisco with natural essential oils , infused in a  recipe of soy, coconut, apricot and hemp.  This is a unique gift you won't find anywhere else.

NEW LIMITED EDITION ITEM! This floral arrangement is exploding with hyper-colors and big, bold ka-BLOOMS! Summertime fireworks can’t compete with this vibrant display. This color blast of a bouquet is perfect for anyone who enjoys Type I fun.

This whimsical option is for the ultimate flower lover. After all, at the end of the day, wouldn't it be nice to have a freshly plucked bouquet from an English garden? While some flowers are carefully cultivated, others are left to proliferate, yet still the hummingbirds and bumble bees go about their business anyway. With that notion in mind, we will create a floral arrangement for you that's vibrant, unique, and fresh. Just don't be surprised if a butterfly comes with it.

This earthy choice is for the kind of person who is easily stopped in their tracks by colorful buds popping out of the soil after a fresh rain. No matter the type of flower, as long as it's fresh, fragrant and in full bloom, it's fair game. Our seasonal arrangements are often playful--mixing warm tones with cool tones--but always on point with interesting textures and delightful accents.  Bonus: It''s peony season!
